Judge Dredd - Walter the Robot

Walter the Robot

I have been looking for Walter the Robit for quite a long time. I recently picked him up with a Job lot of Warlord Dredd figures on eBay, paying almost as much in postage and import duties as the figures but still a bargain I thought.

Walter is the Mega City One's most famous servo droid, Walter the Wobot. This figure was produced by Warlord Games. Walter was once Judge Dredd's house robot. He is usually used in stories to provide comic relief, and he has a speech impediment which causes him to pronounce his R's as W's. (This was a defect caused by fear and stress.) He was originally a robo-servant at the Grand Hall of Justice, and was drafted by Judge Dredd during the First Robot War to help him infiltrate the robot stronghold. Unlike the majority of the robots, Walter believed robots should be diligent slaves for humans. It was Walter who landed the final blow on rebel leader Call-Me-Kenneth, being used to override the city's Weather Control computers and unleash a lightning storm, and he was made a free robot (the first ever) with the rights of a human citizen in 2099 for his loyal services. However he was so devoted to Dredd that he chose to remain in Dredd's employ and even got rid of his freedom papers in exchange for a Deed of Ownership giving him to Dredd. He eventually left Dredd's service after he sustained serious damage at the hands of Mean Machine Angel. This was an effort by the writers to kill him off when Judge Dredd stories were becoming grittier and more mature; in the same story, Dredd's landlady Maria was also written out.

He met Dredd again in 2115, helping him escape the forces of Judge Grice and wielding a vast amount of deadly weaponry, killing many ex-convict Judges in the process, but was ignored after he got Dredd to the safety of the other judges. The next year, Walter snapped over these two encounters and formed a cult around Call-Me-Kenneth, proclaiming he'd been wrong to betray him. He attempted to start a Second Robot War and actually shot Dredd to punish him for Dredd's harsh treatment of him over the years. He was arrested by Rookie Judge Giant and sentenced to thirty years.

However he was freed from jail during the actual Second Robot War in 2121. Reformed, he sought out Dredd and surrendered to him, asking to be reprogrammed so he could not commit crimes again. Instead, Dredd put him on probation and ordered him to work as a helper for the elderly Mrs Gunderson. Walter lives with Gunderson, helps run her Judge Death-based tourist attraction (and dealing with the Death actors who go insane playing the role), and attempts to keep her out of trouble (with great difficulty); he has made several reappearances alongside her.

Judge Dredd- Mining Robot

Mining Robot

This figure is a Stargrave figure but it will join my Judge Dredd collection. I have been adding more robots to my collection. For this chap Unit 4 I have a scenario in mind around a mining site in the future. Quite a simple job but quite happy with the results, the Caterpillar yellow works well.

Judge Dredd - old Rogues

 Old Rogues

Another pair of robots for my Judge Dredd collection, again from the Northstar Stargrave range. These figures will join the deadlands part of the collection. Perfect for rogue or security robots, I painted one in an urban camouflage cape so they can inhabit the wasteland city’s of the deadlands.

Judge Dreed - Mek Troopers

 Mek Troopers

I recently purchased the ABC warriors set to add a bit of flavour for my cursed lands games and to buy some robots that could be used in scenarios. The Volgan AK-47 troopers fit the option to be Mek troopers. Mek troopers are battle droids only mentioned in cursed earth and Slaughter Margin role playing game. Perhaps an abandoned research facility or nuclear bunker type scenario.

Mek Troopers rules

Each time you encounter a Mek trooper roll a D6

1-2 deactivated
3-4 Active but erratic.
At the start of each turn roll a D6 :-
Odds - its remains static and may not fire or enter combat.
Evens - droid functions normally
5-6 Droid acts normally, may fire weapon and engage hand to hand combat

                        M     T   HC.  <>.  TS    S.    H
Mek trooper     4      2     2      -    5.       3.    2

Special rules

I plan to have a game on the dead lands as soon as I complete my table

Judge Dredd - “Stop, it’s Hammerstein”

 Stop, It’s Hammerstein!

When I purchased the ABC warriors set it came with several Mk1 Hammerstein figures, one of my resin figures had a broken leg and I thought I would build one standing and one sitting broken down.

I then set about doing some cutting and sand with the Dremmel to get the figure to sit correctly for me. This figure will be a terrain piece for a rubbish pile or a scenario capture point.  The standing figure may make an appearance also in a game in the future

Really happy with the paint job, both were painted in Vallejo German camo yellow than washed in Agrax earthshade, filled by sponge work for the rust effect, then pencil and paint chip work

Judge Dredd- Citadel Robots

Para 3 Bots

I picked these up off eBay about 5 weeks ago to add to my Dredd collection, they are circa 1978 and I had a few in the mid 80s which I used in Rouge trader games, God knows were they ever got too.
The figs originally were West End Games for the Paranoia Game I think, then citadel purchased the rights to produce the figure while in Newark. Citadel released the figures as Para 3 Bots. They come with separate tops and bottoms so you can mix and match to suit roles and were random in the box.
