Saxon/Irish Army

I have just finished this army off this week, it is made up of three or four manufactures (as i like to mix up ancient and dark age armies a lot. As I all ready have three dark age armies and I am rapidly running out of storage, I am selling this army (I have sold the army since posting it this afternoon).

The army is designed to be quite flexible, late Saxon or Irish with three core units, two cavalry units one mercenary and one of mounted infantry, and a few skirmishers to finish it off, around 1800 points in WAB terms.

The standards are on printed paper with hand painted highlights particularly happy with the cavalry standard on the mercenary sarjents( they are all from Rays site, cheers mate!). The shields are LBMS and hand painted.

Late Roman Cavalry

Arthurian Heavy Cavalry

This unit of cavalry are part of a army that I am painting for a great mate and opponent Dave, a member of GVS. They could be used as late Romans or Arthurians for WAB. I also needed a opponent for my Saxons, Romans and Sassanids. These figures are a mix of Gripping beast and foundry with LBM transfers

Leucosyri Hill tribesmen

Leucosyri hill tribesmen, the Leucosyri were termed White Syrians, and possibly settled in the Paphlagonia region by Alexander particularly around the Halys river, they were conquered by Pontus under Mithridates Ctistes (302–266 BC). I have decided to give these guys the sparra, and will use them as a allied warband for my Pontic army, the figures are crusader miniatures.

Pontic casualty markers

I decided last week to do my casualty markers for WAB. When units are all cut down you are supposed to leave markers so the ground becomes literally "dead ground", and I always forget about this rule so I plan to go back and do some markers for all of my armies (and I may actually use those dead elephants I have!) not that my Pontic army wants to be all ridden down! Off the table this weekend I expect to get my next Pike block and some other bits and pieces, a customers order, some more Sassanids, more Pulp and some late Romans. The next thing to be done is work out which list to use from the Alexander book(probaly Persian).

Arteshtâr-î Zhayedan Sassanid Gaurd Infantry

Sassanid Guard Infantry

Arteshtâr-î Zhayedan were the Guard foot Infantry of the Sassanid Kings, again A & A infantry, I would like to have had them all in scale armour but I am yet to find a suitable figure that can be used if I do these troops will step down to standard infantry. I have given them Phil Hendry's large shields to hide behind! My last Sassanid infantry unit is on the table and should be done by the weekend.

Roman Auxilia Infantry and Cavalry

I finished a lot of these guys last year for Craigs 40th birthday bash, I have started to revisit my early and late republican and imperial roman armies and some of their enemies and allies and finish off a number of half completed units. Some items that need to be done are all of my republicans shields need transfers, I am short shields for my celts and germans plus transfers, and I need finish my republican roman cavalry two Alae.

"Kingmaker 2010"

Well only a few members made it up this month so only five players for the sheildwall games, and I managed to take some bad pics and get a drubbing with my Flemish, but the good company and lunch made up for my misery. Louis and Guy won both games so a draw after all for first place. After we finnished we played 1/72 scale Wings of War with Marks fast play WOW with dice, Marks Rohden Gothas were huge and his Se5s, Fe2s were excellent along with a great range of early german kit. Five of us played and it was great fun, Sam was excited to shot down Boyd in his fancy Albatross, and I got mark on a single dice roll of 100! All of us have promised to paint our hordes of unpainted plastic ww1 aircraft we have around the place and get them on the table in the next few months. I have added the few pictures that did work out below. I have on the painting desk at the moment more 20mm germans, more 28mm Sassanids and some successor Greeks and ancient German cavalry as roman allies.
