Saxon Pirates in the Loire!

The Saxon pirates raided the south and west coast of modern Brittany and Pays de Loire, plus Normandy, settling permanently around Bayeux and on the Belle-Île in the mouth of the Loire, and along the St Malo coast. They were particularly active the 5th century raiding Angers and Nantes. A Roman allied contingent from Normandy also were part in the Roman Confederation defeat of Attila the Hun at Chalons in 451AD.

My Saxon pirate commander is named  Eadwacer, who raided up the Loire in the 5th century.  These figures are 28mm from the Footsore miniatures range.

Saxon Pirates Dark Age Command

Saxon Pirates

I received these figures already painted as a gift for Christmas and decided to base them as a Saxon command or a generic dark age command, figures are Gripping Beast, mix of hand painted shields and transfers, plus the flag is LBM.

Buried in research at the moment for 100YW armorials for lords and knights of Anjou Maine.

Saxon/Irish Army

I have just finished this army off this week, it is made up of three or four manufactures (as i like to mix up ancient and dark age armies a lot. As I all ready have three dark age armies and I am rapidly running out of storage, I am selling this army (I have sold the army since posting it this afternoon).

The army is designed to be quite flexible, late Saxon or Irish with three core units, two cavalry units one mercenary and one of mounted infantry, and a few skirmishers to finish it off, around 1800 points in WAB terms.

The standards are on printed paper with hand painted highlights particularly happy with the cavalry standard on the mercenary sarjents( they are all from Rays site, cheers mate!). The shields are LBMS and hand painted.
