Marguerite of Anjou

La rose rouge d'Anjou

Marguerite of Anjou, one of the principal figures of the war of the roses. Daughter of Rene of Anjou, (King of Naples). Often named as the spark that started the 30 year War of the Roses.  A 28mm Perry miniature painted for the invasion of England during the War of the Roses to place her son Edward back on the crown . Inspiration for her dress from her portrait in Angers Chateau which we visit regularly.

Cybermen advance

Cybermen

Another entry for the analogue painting challenge, some Cybermen soft plastic and hard plastic. Very simple paint job’s, painted in gunmetal, then ink wash, then a dry brush of silver.  The smaller hard plastic are superb sculpts the soft plastic represents the mid seventies Cybermen. I have based them on grey to represent the moon.

Joan d’Arc

 Jeanne d’Arc

Next off the desk is a Perry Miniatures Jeanne d’Arc miniature. I really like this miniature but it needed something on the base to help lift it more so I added archer stakes and arrows. The flag is a photocopy of the Perry supplied one, then repainted, not 100% happy with it and I may replace it at some time in the future with my interpretation of it or just purchase a pre made one. Another entry in the analogue painting challenge.

Star Wars Revell Republic Gunshiip

 Republic Gunship

Another entry for the analogue painting challenge was a 1/172 Republic Gunship. A very quick and easy kit to assemble, airbrush, then assemble, panel lined then highlighted with brush with weathering of different colored panels. I went with a black and white theme. The body is about the size of a matchbox car with the wings sitting outside that. Really happy with the build and it wall join my growing completed Star Wars kits. Again Revell why the weird scale….

Woden The Allfather

 Woden The Allfather

As Impetus requires a camp and after seeing some Woden idols on the Lead Adventure Forum I decided to put something together for the Analogue Painting Challenge.  Perfect for my Germanic warriors all of the miniatures are from the foundry range. The Woden idol is made from wire and green stuff.

13th Analogue Painting challenge - cunning plans

The annual Winter Analogue Painting Challenge is almost upon us again. This year I am trying to complete 800 points as my painting target.

Points are awarded painting figures, artillery, vehicles, ships and terrain. As usual I will be concentrating on historical 20mm and 28mm miniatures with a few pieces thrown in for amusement.

Scores are awarded thus

20mm
Foot 4 points
Mounted and guns 8 points
Vehicles 15points

28mm
Foot figure 5 points
Mounted or artillery 10 points
Vehicle 20 points

Cunning Plans

My plan is to complete a number of projects, as I tend to squirrel and swap and change a bit to prevent boredom I have gone for a broad approach across several projects.

1. My plan this year is 1000 points in total, I plan to complete a few personal projects (British Airborne & Volkssturm) plus add armies for our wargames holiday business relating to local battles and sieges.

  • 18mm AB Napoleonic French
  • 28mm ancient Greeks
  • 28mm ancient Germans
  • 20mm American airborne, artillery, jeeps etc plus three Waco gliders 70+odd figures + 3 fighters for air support
  • 20mm Ww2 British Para - additions to my British para brigade, a supply section and drop area, complete three specific 1/72 horsa gliders for operation Tonga, plus my Hamilcar and tank, plus some jeeps and trailers transports.
  • 20mm Volkssturm fall of Berlin 3 battalions, artillery and bits. 70 odd figs plus artillery and AA bits
  • 20mm panzer Lehr - 70 odd figures plus half tracks, panzers etc for Normandy.
  • 20mm Cold War Warpac and Nato vehicles, plus VDV infantry regiment 100 figures  + 20-30 odd vehicles and 5 aircraft.
  • Terrain :- paint my growing pile of 28mm ancient, medieval and 20mm ww2 3d printed buildings
  • A few 28mm Napoleonic odds and sods Prussians, Austrians and French infantry and cavalry  60-180 figs planned and undercoated.
  • Random 20mm kit, ww2 Dutch, Belgian, Allied and German bits ( I have a lot of built aircraft that need paint….)
I will also try to do a few pieces for the side adventures, mostly at a whim and if it involves aircraft (which I love building), naval or space ships.

Hopefully get as much as I can completed in the 90 day period permitted.

Star Wars Sith Scimitar

Star Wars Sith Infiltrator

The Scimitar, also known as the Sith Infiltrator, was a heavily modified Star Courier and the personal starship of Darth Maul. Along with its deadly armament, the Scimitar was equipped with a cloaking device, powered by rare stygium crystals from the planet Aeten II, that allowed it to disappear from view and any pursuing ship's sensors. Owing to the craft's experimental ion engines, which were of questionable design radiator fins on the ship's wings were required to be open during flight in order to expel excess heat.

The kit is Revell 1/285th scale so it fits two other models they make, I will use it for my own Galactic space rules I use. It was simple build, a quick airbrush and paintbrush job with a oil filter.

Another entry for the analogue painting challenge

Austrian Napoleonic Infantry General

 Austrian General de Division

My last figure post for 2021! I hope to crack on with 2022 as the last of our renovations come to a close in April 2022 (I hope!) 1200 square meters of a 18th century French Maison completed in a bit over four years, then more painting and some new tours and wargame events to hold.

As part of my build for my Napoleonic Austrian army project for 2022 I have decided to paint some Austrians as part of the Analogue painting challenge also to help spur me on.

An Austrian Infantry general de division. A lovely Front rank miniature, that I really enjoyed painting, particularly like the staff officers coat as I really feel it looks correct. My Austrians are a real mix of Front Rank, Victrix, Perry and Revolutionary Armies miniatures to paint over the next twelve months.

Austrian Napoleonic Cavalry General

 Austrian Cavalry General de Division

As part of my build for my Napoleonic Austrian army project next year I have decided to paint some also as part of the Analogue painting challenge. First up is an Austrian Hussar cavalry  general de division. A lovely Front rank miniature, although all of my hussars will be perry when I paint them I could not resist this figure!

French Imperial Guard Mamelukes

French Imperial Guard Mamelukes

First entry for the Analogue Painting Challenge are a unit of Foundry 28mm Mamelukes. I have had these in my possession for at least ten years and as part of my continued focus to clear out my project drawers before I move into my new painting and project workshop on the top floor in March.

They were quite quick to paint and I chose a simple five colour palette and just mixed and matched as I went, I decided to paint green and red leatherwork rather than the normal black just so I could use them as mamelukes or French  Imperial Guard. I also have based them individually as I will use them for skirmish games, plus I have a unit of Gringo 40s to paint that matches my larger figures of my collection.

Analogue Painting Challenge 12th edition

 Analogue Painting Challenge 2021-22

Result of painful overstretching of the Analogue Painting Challenge

I will be partaking in the Analogue  Painting Challenge Again this year, I have reduced my points to 1200 points which is more achievable and less painful than last years stretch of 1500 points, which incidentally I failed by 150 points.

The figure painting challenge really pushes production in the winter months and will also give me a spring board again into next year.  The challenge commences on the 21st of December and finishes on March 21st 2022.

You may commence the challenge with undercoated figures, and the points are scored thus

6mm foot figure = 0.5 point
6mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 1 point
6mm vehicle = 2 points
10mm foot figure = 1 point
10mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 2 points
10mm vehicle = 3 points
15mm foot figure = 2 points
15mm mounted figure, artillery piece or large crew served weapon = 4 points 15mm vehicle = 8 points
20mm foot figure = 4 points
20mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 8 points 20mm vehicle = 15 points

28mm foot figure = 5 points
28mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 10 points
28mm vehicle = 20 points
40mm foot figure = 7 points
40mm mounted figure, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 15 points
40mm vehicle = 25 points
54mm foot figure = 10 points
54mm mounted figures, artillery piece or crew served weapon = 20 points
54mm vehicle, limber, etc. = 30 points

Terrain is based on 6 inch squared areas

My Cunning Plan....

I am selecting a mix of 28mm and 20mm figures and vehicles. It works out at 240 28mm figures basically. Plus I intend to complete my two Chateaux builds, Norman conquest of Maine and 100 years war pieces. There is also a side challenge with a sci-fi theme, so I may partake in that to boost points.

  • Imperial Romans Foundry (in the pile of shame for 6 years)
  • HYW Scots
  • HYW English
  • HYW French
  • Breton Succession French
  • Napoleonic Austrians
  • Napoleonic Russians
