Another unit of medieval Anjou Maine Infantry to defend against the Norman and Breton invasions in the 11th century. William the Conqueror and Conan of Brittany bring the two main opponents in the period.
Figures are from the plastic gripping beast dark Age set with some Victrix heads, and additional metal or plastic hand painted shields.

Thanks Phillipe, yes I really like them for that reason.
Geoffroy II de Mayenne, Baron de Mayenne, he defended the western part of the region against Williams first incursions, and fought in both open large skirmishes in Maine at Ambrieres and Domfront, was at the siege of Gorron, Ambrieres, Domfront and Mayenne.
Other notables were Hubert ( II ) Viscount Beaumont du Maine, Alençon, St Suzanne and Le Mans chateaux and Hugue I er de Sillé, Sillé de Guilliame and Fresnay Chateaux.
Thanks for you complete answer Matt !! (The Australian teach the French about his own history !! Shame on me !!)
I will look forward for Geoffroy II de Mayenne armory, he will be my Saga band leader to fight my friend Laurent William Normans....and your forthcoming Vikings !!
These warriors look first-rate! Nice work on the shields too.

DeleteHi Matt! Figures are really nice! I find large Impetus bases interesting to make small dioramas as you do
ReplyDeleteWho were the lords of Maine who fought against William and his Normands? I think Guy de Laval was short later isn't it ?
