"Bloody April" Club Meet

Last month at the club we played a 7 player mini campaign for the day, lots of laughs and lots of dakka dakka carry on, we played using WOW rules which works well in large numbers of planes on the table. WOW is now called Wings of Glory. WOG now brings a few guffaws at the club, as in Australia it actually means anyone from Mediterranean heritage, our Italian club member bought this to our attenion when they made the name change to the rules.

I played as a german pilot,  as usual I still mix up my left and right turns so even I do not know where I am flying some times!!!!!

Game 1

The Valiant allies on patrol.

The aggressive German circus, led by the Baron Rhino.

The first allied plane suffers some damage by Hapt Willow, and the Baron

down he goes, he managed to walk away with a broken arm only....... first game over

Game 2

plucky Aussie RE8 takes on the circus, aggresively flying straight into the storm.....

the RE8 manages to fly through breaking up the german circus, the follwing camels pounce on the opportunity.....The RE8 finishes his recon and returns to his lines

Hapt Willow ges down in flames after a bodgey turn (left instead of right) turns me into the path of two aircraft.....I

 do manage to survive with broken ribs and concussion.

The Baron manages to shoot down one and damage another, Hapt Boydelli finishes him off.

Then is promptly shot down himself, the remaining allied plane flys off the table....

Game 3

Two rumplers are on a bombing mission and are pounced upon by camels and a French Spad from the clouds

The Spad gets a engine fire from a long range shot before camels start tailing the rumplers

The Baron and Rumplers team up for a kill, the pilot does not walk away, the spad suffers fataly and falls out of the sky, another win for the Germans.

Game 4

A close start , Lothar von Willow dies in the initial clash...........

The Baron gets one on, but gets hit in the effort

mid air explosion finishes off Cardinal Biggles

but the Baron is down, but walks away

The three allies pounce on the remaining Fokker

and finish him off!

Jasta 27

Jasta 27

Jasta 27 was formed on 5 February 1917 at Ghent and mobilized a week later on 12 February. It was made part of Jagdgeschwader 3 along with Jasta 2, Jasta 26 and Jasta 36. 

The following officers had command of Jasta 27:

12 February 1917 - 15 February 1917 Lieutenant Hans von Keudell
22 February 1917 - 17 May 1917 Lieutenant Erich Wieland
17 May 1917 - 28 July 1918 Lieutenant Hermann Göring
29 July 1918 - 11 November 1918 Hermann Frommherz

another Albatross DV and a Yellow tailed DR1 will join Goring to fill out the 27th jasta!

Allied aircraft

WOW Allied Aircraft

My first aircraft of the Allied airforce for 1/72nd Wings of War, these were put together by my good mate Chris who was up for the challenge of the Airfix RE8, and the Roden Se5 was a much kinder kit to build apparently. Both kits were painted with my trusty Aztek, then ink washed, then a combination of airbrush and brush highlighting and weathering, I don't know why but all allied transfers seem oversize so I have ordered some replacements for both of these aircraft, and I have some pilots (currently being sculpted, which I will put into production) on the way to fill the empty seats soon!

Jasta 2 1917 WOW

A great many discussions have been had at the club over the last few years of moving to 1/72nd scale WW1 air combat. Mark had a head start and has been building fleets of aircraft for the last ten years mostly to play canvas eagles. Two years ago a few of the chaps started to get excited by Wings Of War and played a few club games using the rules and the aircraft available, a number of great games were had with lots of "dakka dakka" and sound effects provided by a snoopy toy plane!

Last Novemeber we all played WOW in 1/72nd scale for the first time, Mark had designed all of the decks and most of us decided to get a few kits and build some early war and late war planes, last month three of us at the club played WOW early war (see Gregs Post here).

I have decided to concentrate on late war so this is my first Jasta of my planned three Jasta's, each jasta will have around five aircraft. These two still need some wire work, and to be gloss then flat matt clear finish done. I have selected two historical colour schemes so far from Jasta 2, the other two or three will be made up I think.

Albatross DIII flown by Ltn Hermann Frommherz 1917 , I am the most happy with this Kite, all hand painted including the stripes.

"Kingmaker 2010"

Well only a few members made it up this month so only five players for the sheildwall games, and I managed to take some bad pics and get a drubbing with my Flemish, but the good company and lunch made up for my misery. Louis and Guy won both games so a draw after all for first place. After we finnished we played 1/72 scale Wings of War with Marks fast play WOW with dice, Marks Rohden Gothas were huge and his Se5s, Fe2s were excellent along with a great range of early german kit. Five of us played and it was great fun, Sam was excited to shot down Boyd in his fancy Albatross, and I got mark on a single dice roll of 100! All of us have promised to paint our hordes of unpainted plastic ww1 aircraft we have around the place and get them on the table in the next few months. I have added the few pictures that did work out below. I have on the painting desk at the moment more 20mm germans, more 28mm Sassanids and some successor Greeks and ancient German cavalry as roman allies.
